Frequently Asked Questions
about Member Subscriptions

  1. How can I access Protein Science Online if I am not a Protein Society member and I don't have access through an Institutional subscription?

The benefits of Protein Society membership include a Member subscription to Protein Science (print and electronic versions of the journal). So, you may wish to apply for Protein Society membership (see below).

  2. How do I become a member of The Protein Society?

Information about Protein Society membership and application forms are available from The Protein Society Web site.

  3. Why should I apply for a Member subscription to Protein Science?

Member subscribers receive the print journal and have online access to:
Tables of contents, abstracts, full-text searching, full-text display, document delivery, PDFs, links to Medline and GenBank, reference links to other HighWire Press journals, future tables of contents, data supplements, and special individual-subscriber services. Plus there is the advantage of having password access to Protein Science Online from any computer connected to the Internet.

In addition, there are the many benefits of Protein Society membership itself!

Without a subscription one still has online access to Tables of contents, abstracts, and full-text searching (without full-text viewing) at no cost and without having to register.

  4. Will I receive a password? May I share my password with friends, or is use limited solely to me?

Yes, when you complete the subscription process, you will receive a user name and a password. You are the only one licensed to use this password.

  5. What if I forget my password?

We have instructions for what to do if you forget your user name or your password. Details about how to do this are included as part of the subscription process.

  6. How can I tell if my institution has subscribed? How do I get my institution to subscribe?

If your institution has a print subscription, it will be eligible to activate online access to the electronic version of the journal as well. In so doing, the institution's users will automatically have access to all of the features mentioned above, without having to sign in. However, special individual-subscriber services will not be available. Also note that online access to this full set of features must be from computer within the institution's network.

If you have access via an Institutional subscription, you will see a button at the top of the website pages confirming you're signed in as part of an institution.

If your institution does not have a print subscription, it cannot access the electronic version of Protein Science. If you would like to have your institution acquire an Institutional subscription, please contact your local librarian.

  7. Will I still be able to get the paper version? And for how long?

Yes, individuals and institutions will continue to be able to receive the print version for the foreseeable future. At some time, the print and electronic versions may be available as separate subscriptions.

  8. Who is eligible for a Member subscription?

Protein Society members are eligible for a Member subscription to Protein Science, providing them with a print and an electronic version of the journal. Other individuals who are not members of The Protein Society may acquire an Individual (Non-Member) subscription.
