Copyediting and Page Proofs

The Publisher reserves the right to copyedit manuscripts to conform to Protein Science journal style. Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Press will send all page proofs electronically to corresponding authors. Digital page proofs (which include instructions and query sheet), together with an Author Packet of forms to be signed, will be distributed to corresponding authors online in PDF format. Please remember that color artwork in PDF page proofs is processed in RGB, though color artwork that appears in the print journal is processed in CMYK. (As noted in Instructions to Authors, authors are expected to have reviewed both color artwork formats onscreen prior to final artwork submission. Hard-copy art proofs will no longer be created.) Some color shift between the two color modes (RGB and CMYK) is unavoidable. In addition, colors viewed online depend to some extent on each monitor's resolution settings (likewise with printers), so some variation in color and contrast between the submitted image and the published artwork may occur. Each PDF proof will be accessible via a unique password that our compositor will send to the corresponding author in E-mail. Authors must review their PDF page proofs within 48 hours. Authors are required to print out and mark up their PDF page proofs and to attach a typed list of corrections (noting PDF page, column, and line of correction) and send to CSHLP Production. The marked-up pages and itemized corrections list can either be (1) faxed to CSHLP Production at 516-422-4094; (2) sent via overnight delivery to CSHLP Production, 500 Sunnyside Blvd., Woodbury NY 11797-2924; or (3) in the case of just a handful of corrections, the itemized list of corrections (without copies of the marked-up page proofs) can simply be E-mailed to CSHLP Production at journals{at}cshl.org. In addition to the itemized list of corrections and marked-up PDF printouts, authors must sign and return all Author Packet forms. Authors can opt to return these forms via e-mail, fax, or overnight mail. No rewriting of the final accepted manuscript is permitted at the proof stage. Excessive author alterations in proof may cause delays in publication and will be charged to the author.
